Since its creation 10 years ago, our centre has been equipped with an isokinetic dynamometer, which allows for muscular assessments and also rehabilitation sessions using "isokinetics".
Isokinetics is an innovative discipline that has already been consolidated on the borderline between different fields: rehabilitation, sports medicine, traumatology ... its contribution has been confirmed by numerous studies in recent years.
On the one hand, it allows an objective quantitative and qualitative assessment of the muscular function. Osteoarticular dysfunctions that are caused or maintained by muscle imbalances, which are not detectable with other tests or diagnostic tests can thus be confirmed, discarded or followed in their evolution.
This is specific work, controlled quantitatively and qualitatively, and in a totally safe environment.
Certain muscle imbalances predispose to serious injuries to the locomotor system, isokinetics allows us to detect these situations of risk and correct them.
The isokinetic dynamometer allows us to evaluate and work with different anatomical regions. The joint we have most experience with is the knee. The utility of isokinetics is evident in the rehabilitation of injuries, but we can also benefit from it in case of chronic tendinitis and even knee arthritis.
The shoulder joint is another major joint that can benefit from the contributions of isokinetics. However, in fact, the device has high adaptability and also allows us to evaluate and rehabilitate other joints (elbow, wrist, ankle).
As there have been no further doubts about the effect of isokinetic exercise on the peripheral joints, the efforts have been focused on exploiting its benefits in the pathology of the rachis. In Medisport we have had the trunk module since 2004, and this allows us to evaluate and treat the pathologies of the lumbar spine with the advantages of isokinetics.
If initially the isokinetics was known to and used by a limited number of professionals, at this time its utility does not offer any doubt. Numerous confirmed scientific studies demonstrate its contribution and the demand for evaluations and treatment is increasing.
